Expressing your feelings, whether you love something, dislike it, or have a preferenc, adds depth and authenticity to your conversations in any language. In Arabic, these expressions are key to mastering fluency and communicating effectively.

🔑 Key Phrases for Beginners Expressing Likes, Dislikes and Preferences in Arabic
I like/love – أُحِبُّ ('uḥibbu) Example: َأُحِبُّ القَهْوَة. ('Uḥibbu al-qahwah.) – I like coffee.
I don't like/ I don't love / I dislike – لا أُحِبُّ (lā 'uḥibbu) Example: َلا أُحِبُّ الأطْعِمَةَ الحارَّة (Lā 'uḥibbu al-aṭʻimata al-ḥārrah.) – I don’t like spicy food. As in the example, to negate simply add لا (lā) just before the verb.
I hate – أكْرَهُ ('akrahu) Example: أكْرَه ُالاِسْتيقاظَ مُبَكِّراً ('Akrahu al-istiqāẓa mubakkiran.) – I hate waking up early.
I prefer – أُفَضِّلُ ('ufaḑḑilu) Example: َأُفَضِّلُ الشّايَ عَلى القَهْوَة ('Ufaḑḑilu ash-shāya ʻalá al-qahwah.) – I prefer tea over coffee.
Expand and combine sentences by using conjunctions– لَكِنْ (Lākin) but - أيْضاً ('Ayḑan) also
I like coffee, but I don't like tea.
('Uḥibbu al-qahwata, lākin lā 'uḥibbu ash-shāy.)
أُحِبُّ القَهْوَةَ، لَكِنْ لا أُحِبُّ الشَّايَ.
I like coffee, and I also like tea.
('Uḥibbu al-qahwata, wa 'ayḑan 'uḥibbu ash-shāy.)
أُحِبُّ القَهْوَةَ، وأيْضاً أُحِبُّ الشَّايَ.
